UPLIFT closing meeting in Amsterdam

The UPLIFT – Urban PoLicy Innovation to address inequality with and for Future generaTions project has been finished. The last consortium meeting was held in Amsterdam, where, beside the project related discussions, our colleagues also had the opportunity to study the social housing system of Amsterdam.

Within the frames of the project, 15 partner institutions worked together to get a deeper insight into the urban inequalities among the young. Beside the quantitative and qualitative research, the consortium also elaborated policy recommendations to tackle the inequalities and other social problems.

Thank you for the contribution for all the partners, and the great lead for the Metropolitan Research Institute!

PIONEERED project meeting in Helsinki (15-16 June)

At the event, held at the University of Helsinki, participants analysed pioneering practices and policies aimed at reducing educational inequalities that have been collected over the past years of research. The aim of the meeting was to review the results so far, refine the selection criteria and prepare the final report of the research.

TÁRKI workshop on the societal changes under illiberal rule

 

On July 6-7, TÁRKI organized a two-day workshop entitled "Changing life opportunities under illiberal rule: drivers of social structural change in Hungary".

The workshop aimed to contribute to a better understanding of how various instruments of social and family policies were used to build the socioeconomic basis of the illiberal regime on the one hand and of how the life opportunities of Hungarian citizens has been shaped by social developments and governmental policies since 2010 – allowing for longer, historic accounts in some cases. The event was organized in two sessions.

EUROSHIP meeting in Budapest

On Thursday and Friday (20-21 April) we held the 8th EUROSHIP partners meeting in Budapest. The event was hosted by TÁRKI. Participants discussed the chapters of two forthcoming books presenting the results of the EUROSHIP project. Our collegues authors of the following chapters: András Gábos, Zsófia Tomka and György István Tóth "Diversity and change in social citizenship: mapping poverty in Europe" on income poverty from a national and pan-European perspective; András Gábos and Zsófia Tomka "Who does not work, shall not eat". The politics of minimum income schemes in Hungary", a chapter on the political economy of the Hungarian social assistance system. At large, Euroship aims to develop policy recommendations on how to strengthen social citizenship across the EU.

 

Our researchers at the CEU Bibó István Free University

At the CEU Bibó István Free University, our researchers Ágnes Kozma Turnpenny and Anikó Bernát will start a course entitled "People with disabilities in society: systemic disadvantages and supporting factors". During the free course, the main social and historical aspects of disability will be explored with the help of researchers, experts and people with disabilities. The seminars will introduce the main concepts related to the topic, the national and international historical background, followed by a discussion with the audience. The course is open to all, thus materials are designed to be accessible to people with any level of interest in the subject.

TARKI is currently testing an innovative learning method and learning platform

Within the frame of KIDS4ALLL, TARKI is currently testing an innovative learning method and learning platform in two different afterschool facilities of Motivation Association for 9 months. The learning method builds on cooperation, interactive learning, and the creativity of children. It primarily aims to enhance the educational integration of migrant children and/or children with ethnic minority background. As the curriculum is fully developed by the project partners, it is fascinating to see them being tested by the children and hear their feedback finally.

KIDS 4 ALLL and #PIONEERED met in Vilnius

KIDS 4 ALLL and #PIONEERED, our two twin - projects crossed each other’s path in Vilnius, Lithuania. Borbála Lőrincz from TARKI presented KIDS4ALLL at the consortium meeting of PIONEERED, where participants caught a glimpse of the unique learning environment that was developed by the KIDS4ALLL Consortium and could also hear about the first impressions of children and educators of the pilot partners where KIDS4ALLL’s educational method and environment is currently being tested.
