Final Conference of PIONEERED

The Final Conference of the PIONEERED Research Project took place in Esch-sur-Alzette, LU, hosted by the University of Luxembourg, between 30 January and 1 February 2024. The PIONEERED project started three years ago, aiming to map pioneering policies and practices tackling educational inequalities in nine European countries. TÁRKI participated in all work packages of the now closing project, being task leader in the production of the report summarising quantitative findings across countries. As part of PIONEERED, our colleagues, Zoltán Hermann and Dorottya Kisfalusi published a paper in the International Journal of Comparative Sociology on ‘School segregation, student achievement, and educational attainment in Hungary’.

During the final conference, Borbála Lőrincz and István György Tóth represented TÁRKI.  At the event, findings in the three main areas of the project – qualitative practice research, quantitative data analysis and policy research – were introduced by speakers. On behalf of TÁRKI, Borbála Lőrincz worked on two papers presented. First, together with Sabine Bollig from the University of Trier, she discussed their analysis on territorial inclusivity, comparing pioneering inclusive practices of early childhood education and care in Hungary and Germany. Second, with Jekatyerina Dunajeva and Hanna Siarova of PPMI (Vilnius, Lithuania), they presented their analysis on the historical development of policy approaches to educational inequality in Hungary and Lithuania. It has been a pleasure to cooperate with our partners on this project and to participate in the final conference, with the hope of further collaborations in the future.
