TÁRKI Social Research Inc. is an independent, employee-owned research organisation that specialises in policy research in the fields of social policy and the social consequences of economic policies. This includes related data-collection, archiving and statistical activities. We recently increased our involvement in the areas of strategic market research and health policy analysis. In addition, we regularly contribute to basic research, in the areas of social stratification and inequality, and to the methodology of empirical social research.

Anikó BernátAnikó Bernát, MA, is a researcher at the TARKI Social Research Institute and a PhD applicant in Sociology at ELTE University Budapest.





Research Area

Issues related to minorities, especially the Roma, migration, discrimination and culture.

Currently she is coordinating and participating in several social science, social policy and applied researches as a researcher or project manager. Current research projects:
  • Researcher and coordinator of the technical coordinator team in the Pilot Media Project from the aspect of minorities and diversity issues in 6 EU countries, commissioned by The European Union Agency for Fundamental Rights (FRA) (2008)
  • Researcher in the collaborative research EU FP7 project entitled "ENRI-East: Interplay of European, National and Regional Identities: nations between states along the new Eastern borders of the EU" (2008-2010)
  • Co-author of the study on internet usage, title: "Digital literacy, social segmentation" to be published in the Social Report 2008
  • Co-author of the report "Curves of living standard in the Hungarian society between 1992 and 2007" in the framework of the TÁRKI project Households Life Course Research (2008)
  • Study on the consumption of the Hungarian households within the research TARKI Household Monitor 2007 (2008)

  • Leader and researher in the empirical research on Roma Migration in the Context of Hungarian Migration Processes (funded by Hungarian Scientific Research Fund OTKA) (2002-2005)
  • Coordinator in the policy oriented project entitled "Barriers to Roma employment in Hungary" based on qualitative methods and desk research. The aim of the research was to provide policy recommendations and proposals on increasing the labour market involvement of the Roma in short- and mid-term. (2005)
  • Coordinator of the Hungarian research in the South and Central European cross-country empirical research on Roma titled "Survey on Vulnerable Groups: Roma, Internally Displaced Persons and Refugees in South Eastern Europe and Central Eastern Europe" commissioned by UNDP (2004)
  • Leader of the research on minorities in Hungary titled "Evaluation of the Governmental Minority Policy by the Hungarian National and Ethnic Minorities" commissioned by the Prime Minister's Office. (2004)
